The North Pacific right whale (Eubalaena japonica) is clearly the most endangered of the great whales. The mainstay of the whaling industry in the 1840's, this whale may have been more numerous than gray whales. Now it may number only in the hundreds, if that. Here is more info about its current status. |

The IUCN Canid Specialist Group Since 1999, I have been the webmaster of the CSG, a group of 75 scientists around the world expert on the status and biology of the 36 species of wild canids. The group has devoted particular efforts to the endangered species which include the African wild dog (Lycoan pictus), the Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis), the dhole (Cuon alpinus), and the Island grey fox (Urocyon litoralis) found only on the Channel Islands off southern California. Much more info and pictures of these and the other wild canid species can be found on the CSG website. |
